Below is a glossary of terms that appear within the Usage Statistics section of the Administration Portal.

 

General Terms

  • A La Carte: refers to singular title that is purchased, rather than being included as part of a subscription.
  • Access URL: a URL that allows direct access to the video platform.
  • Account Filter: a filter option, available across several reports for consortia accounts, that provides the option to limit results by a particular account or sub account.
  • Active Subscription: a current subscription; not expired.
  • Active Titles: titles that currently have active standing and are viewable within the platform; not expired.
  • Active Users: users that currently have access to the platform; not archived.
  • Admin Username/Password: refers to the login credentials for the account administrator, available as data point for the Custom Account Usage Report.
  • Core Video Views: refers to the number of views, limited to core content only, and excluding web channels and custom content.
  • CSV: comma separate values, an export format.
  • Core Content: refers to the core video content that is included in a subscription, excluding web channels, custom content, and Criterion on Demand.
  • Custom Content: additional content, provided by your institution, and made available within the video platform interface.
  • Date Added: refers to the date a title was added to a collection and thus made available for subscription within the platform.
  • Expiration Date: the date that a particular title expires, also may apply to the expiry of a subscription.
  • Expired Titles: refers to titles that were once available, but access has since expired.
  • Generate: a button found in most reports, which functions to generate the desired result set.
  • Login: refers to an individual session within the video platform, available as a data point across several reports.
  • Organization Type: refers to a description category assigned to an individual institution within a consortia account.
  • Organization Type Filter: a filter option, available across several reports for consortia accounts, that provides the option to limit results by a particular organization type.
  • Producer: refers to the owner of a particular item of media.
  • Save: a button that initiates the saving or scheduling of a report.
  • Schedule: a button that opens the report scheduler.
  • Subject: refers to an area of academic study, used to categorize items of media.
  • Subject Filter: a filter, available across multiple reports, that refines results based on a particular subject.
  • Subscription: refers to purchased access to content, for a particular measure of time.
  • User Type: refers to a description category assigned to a user.
  • User Type Filter: a filter option, available across several reports, that provides the option to limit results by a particular user type.
  • Video Source Filter: a filter, available across multiple reports, that provides refinement options based the source of media, including core content, web channels, custom content and Criterion on Demand.
  • Web Channels: third party video content, available within the video platform.

 

Usage Overview

  • Custom Content Views: refers to the total number of custom content views in a given period, excluding core content, web channels, Criterion on Demand and non video assets.
  • New Assignments Created: an item in the Activity Summary section of the Usage Overview tab, which refers to the number of assignments created over a particular timeframe.
  • New Favorites Created: an item in the Activity Summary section of the Usage Overview tab, which refers to the number of Favorites saved over a particular timeframe.
  • New Groups Created: an item in the Activity Summary section of the Usage Overview tab, which refers to the number of groups created over a particular timeframe.
  • New Playlists Created: an item in the Activity Summary section of the Usage Overview tab, which refers to the number of playlists created over a particular timeframe.
  • New Users Created: an item in the Activity Summary section of the Usage Overview tab, which refers to the number of new users created over a particular timeframe.
  • Searches: an item in the Active Summary section of the Usage Overview tab, which refers to the number of searches conducted and saved over a particular timeframe.
  • Total Active Users: an item in the User Summary section of the Usage Overview tab, which refers to the total number of active users within an account as a particular time.
  • Total Assignments: an item in the Activity Summary section of the Usage Overview tab, which refers to the number of assignments created over a particular timeframe.
  • Total Favorites: an item in the Activity Summary section of the Usage Overview tab, which refers to the number of favorites saved over a particular timeframe.
  • Total Groups: an item in the Activity Summary section of the Usage Overview tab, which refers to the number of groups created over a particular timeframe.
  • Total Overall Media Assets: an item in the Media Summary section of the Usage Overview tab, and also appearing on the Dashboard, which refers to the number of media assets for a particular timeframe, including core content, web channels, custom content, Criterion on Demand and non video assets.
  • Total Overall Views: an item in the Media Usage Summary section of the Usage Overview tab, which refers to the total number of views for media assets over a particular timeframe, including core content, web channels, custom content, Criterion on Demand and non video assets.
  • Total Playlists: an item in the Active Summary section of the Usage Overview tab, which refers to the number of playlists that exist for a particular timeframe.
  • Total Searches Conducted: an item in the Active Summary section of the Usage Overview tab, which refers to the number of searches conducted over a particular timeframe.
  • Total Searches Saved: an item in the Active Summary section of the Usage Overview tab, which refers to the number of searches saved over a particular timeframe.
  • Total User Logins: an item in the Active Summary section of the Usage Overview tab, which refers to the number of logins that occurred over a particular timeframe.

 

Pre-Made Reports

  • COUNTER: stands for Counting Online Usage of NeTworked Electronic Resources, which is a published code of practice for reporting usage statistics.
  • COUNTER 2.0 Report: a legacy usage report, in the style of the COUNTER 2.0 reporting standard.
  • COUNTER 4.0 Report: a current usage report, in the style of the current COUNTER 4.0 reporting standard. Full glossary of related terms available here.
  • Usage by Account: a pre made report that provides usage data about a particular account or consortia of accounts over a particular range of time.
  • Usage By Collections: a pre made report that provides usage data, broken down by collection, over a particular range of time.
  • Usage By Producers: a pre made report that provides usage data, broken down by producer, over a particular range of time.
  • Usage By Subject: a pre made report that provides usage data, broken down by subject, over a particular range of time.
  • Usage By User: a pre made report that provides usage data, broken down by user, over a particular range of time.

 

Custom Reports

  • Account ID: the unique numeric ID associated with an account.
  • Account Usage Report: a more robust version of the pre-made Usage by Account reports, utilizing three layers of range selection, field selection and filtering.
  • Admin Username/Password: refers to the login credentials for the account administrator, available as data point for the Custom Account Usage Report.
  • Advanced Filters: sets of optional filters, used for additional refinement.
  • Asset Category: refers to a descriptor of the type of media, video or otherwise, available as a data point for the Custom Account Usage Report.
  • Asset Type: refers to a descriptor of a type of media, video or otherwise.
  • Closed Captioning: refers to subtitles available for a particular video title, available as a data point for the Custom Title Usage Report.
  • Collection: a bundle of content, based on a subject area or group of subject areas, that can be accessed through a subscription.
  • Collection Filter: a filter option, available across several reports, that provides the option to limit results by a particular collection.
  • Copyright Filter: a filter option, available across several reports, that provides the option to limit results by a particular copyright range.
  • Custom Reports: reports that allow for additional customization beyond the pre made reports, offering a wide range of metadata fields and advanced filtering options.
  • Date Added Filter: a filter option, available in several reports, that provides the option to limit results by a range of dates, based on when titles were made available within the platform.
  • Description: refers to the metadata description for a particular title, segment or media asset.
  • Direct Parent Account Name: refers to the main account that administrates a particular sub account within a consortia structure, available as a data point for the Custom Account Usage Report.
  • Item #: a numeric identification number assigned to a title.
  • Local Host Information: refers to path information for locally hosted content, available as data point for the Custom Account Usage Report.
  • Number of Users: refers to the total number of users within an account, available as data point for the Custom Account Usage Report.
  • Producer Filter: a filter, available across multiple reports, that refines results based on a particular producer.
  • Run-Time: the duration of a title or segment, available as a data point across several reports.
  • Subscription End: refers to the end date for a particular subscription within an account, available as data point for the Custom Account Usage Report.
  • Thumbnail: refers to the designated still image for a particular item of media, available as a data point for the Custom Title Usage Report.
  • Title Name: refers to the name for a specific title, available as a data point for the Custom Title Usage Report.
  • Title URL: a permalink that provides direct access to a title, available as a data point for the Custom Title Usage Report.

 

My Saved Reports

  • Academic Year: refers to the period of the year during which students attend an educational institution, beginning in September; available as an option for scheduling reports.
  • Calendar Year: refers to the traditional calendar schedule, beginning in January, which is available as an option for scheduling reports.
  • Email a copy now: sends you an immediate copy of the email, available as a check box option when scheduling reports.
  • My Saved Reports: reports that are saved to the My Saved Reports section.
  • Report Frequency: an option on the report scheduling tool that offers a choice of delivery intervals.
  • Schedule Report: a tool for scheduling reports to be emailed to a designated group of individuals at designated intervals, available via the Schedule and Save buttons found on all report pages.
